How to stop cramps when they happen

  • Gently stretch the affected muscle (pull toes toward your body for calf cramps)
  • Massage the cramped area
  • Stand up and walk slowly if possible
  • Apply heat (relaxes muscle) or cold (reduces soreness afterward)

How to reduce them at night

  • Stretch calves and feet before bed
  • Stay well hydrated during the day
  • Maintain regular physical activity (avoid sudden overexertion)
  • Avoid sleeping with toes pointed downward
  • Consider electrolyte balance in diet (banana, leafy greens, dairy, nuts)
