Claims like “This burns weeds in 1 day! They NEVER grow again” are usually exaggerated. Many homemade weed killers can damage or kill the visible leaves quickly, but permanently preventing weeds from returning is much harder.
What actually happens:
- Vinegar-based sprays: Can burn foliage within hours or a day, especially on young weeds, but many weeds regrow from their roots.
- Salt-based mixtures: May kill plants more thoroughly, but they can also damage soil and prevent desirable plants from growing in the area for a long time.
- Boiling water: Can kill many small weeds by damaging the plant tissue, but deep-rooted weeds may come back.
For longer-lasting weed control:
- Remove weeds with as much of the root system as possible.
- Apply mulch (such as wood chips or straw) to block sunlight.
- Seal cracks in driveways and paths where weeds commonly emerge.
- Use a targeted weed-control product labeled for your specific area and follow the instructions.
A weed that “never grows again” is rare—most control methods reduce or delay regrowth rather than permanently eliminate it. If you share the recipe behind the claim, I can help evaluate how effective and safe it is.
