The dark ring around a faucet is usually caused by hard-water mineral deposits, soap residue, dirt, or mildew collecting where the faucet meets the sink. The best cleaning method depends on the surface (ceramic, porcelain, stainless steel, stone, etc.).
Simple cleaning method
You’ll need:
- White vinegar
- Baking soda (optional)
- Soft cloth or old toothbrush
- Warm water
Steps:
- Soak a cloth or paper towel with white vinegar.
- Wrap it around the dark area near the faucet base.
- Leave it for 15–30 minutes to loosen mineral buildup.
- Scrub gently with a soft toothbrush.
- Rinse with clean water and dry with a microfiber cloth.
For stubborn stains
- Make a paste with baking soda and a little water.
- Apply gently, scrub lightly, then rinse.
Avoid:
- Abrasive scrubbers that can scratch finishes.
- Mixing vinegar with bleach or other cleaners.
- Using acidic cleaners on natural stone surfaces (such as marble or some granite) unless the product is labeled safe.
