Place a Tablespoon on Any Plant at Home: What to Expect

Place 1 tablespoon on any plant at home—here’s what to expect. 🌿

A single tablespoon of the right natural ingredient can give many houseplants a healthy boost.

One of the easiest options is used coffee grounds. Sprinkle about 1 tablespoon into the top layer of soil every few weeks for acid-loving plants like ferns, peace lilies, and some pothos varieties. It can help improve soil structure and add small amounts of nutrients as it breaks down.

Another option is worm castings. Mix 1 tablespoon into the soil around the base of your plant to provide a gentle, slow-release source of nutrients that supports healthy roots and greener leaves.

Keep in mind:
✔ Use only a small amount—too much can harm your plant.
✔ Not all plants benefit from the same amendments. Coffee grounds, for example, aren’t ideal for every species.
✔ Water as usual after applying to help the nutrients reach the roots.

Healthy plants come from the right care, not just one ingredient. Light, watering, and proper drainage still make the biggest difference.
