Doctors reveal that eating beets causes…

That headline is incomplete clickbait. It’s usually trying to make a simple food sound dramatic.

The food in question is Beetroot (often just called beets), and in real medical nutrition research, it is generally considered healthy for most people when eaten in normal amounts.

What beets actually do in the body

1. May support blood pressure

  • Beets are rich in natural nitrates
  • These can help the body produce nitric oxide, which may relax blood vessels
  • Some studies show a small temporary reduction in blood pressure

2. Support exercise performance (mild effect)

  • Nitrates may improve blood flow and oxygen use
  • Effects are modest, not dramatic

3. Support digestion

  • High in fiber, which helps bowel regularity

4. Rich in nutrients

  • Folate
  • Potassium
  • Manganese
  • Antioxidants (betalains)

What clickbait often “claims” but is misleading

❌ “Cures diseases”

No evidence beets cure cancer, diabetes, or infections.

❌ “Detoxes your body”

Your liver and kidneys already handle detoxification.

❌ “Dangerous in normal amounts”

For most people, beets are safe as food.

Minor side effects (real but harmless)

  • Red/pink urine or stool (“beeturia”) in some people
  • Can slightly lower blood pressure (caution if already on BP medication)
  • May be high in oxalates (relevant for people prone to kidney stones)
