🥔 Classic Mashed Potatoes
A simple, creamy mashed potato recipe that serves 4–6 people.
Ingredients
- 1 kg (about 2 lb) potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
- 4 tbsp butter
- ½–¾ cup warm milk (or cream)
- 1 tsp salt, or to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Boil the potatoes
- Place potatoes in a pot and cover with cold water.
- Add a pinch of salt.
- Bring to a boil and cook for 15–20 minutes, until fork-tender.
- Drain well
- Drain the potatoes thoroughly.
- Let them sit in the warm pot for 1–2 minutes to evaporate excess moisture.
- Mash
- Mash the potatoes with a potato masher or ricer until smooth.
- Add butter and milk
- Stir in the butter.
- Gradually add warm milk until you reach your desired consistency.
- Season
- Add salt and black pepper to taste.
- Mix until creamy and smooth.

- Grated cheddar or Parmesan cheese
