  • 1 tsp salt, or to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Boil the potatoes
    • Place potatoes in a pot and cover with cold water.
    • Add a pinch of salt.
    • Bring to a boil and cook for 15–20 minutes, until fork-tender.
  2. Drain well
    • Drain the potatoes thoroughly.
    • Let them sit in the warm pot for 1–2 minutes to evaporate excess moisture.
  3. Mash
    • Mash the potatoes with a potato masher or ricer until smooth.
  4. Add butter and milk
    • Stir in the butter.
    • Gradually add warm milk until you reach your desired consistency.
  5. Season
    • Add salt and black pepper to taste.
    • Mix until creamy and smooth.

Optional Add-Ins

  • Roasted garlic
  • Chopped chives or green onions
  • Grated cheddar or Parmesan cheese
  • Sour cream
  • Cream cheese

Tips for the Best Mashed Potatoes

  • Use starchy potatoes such as Russet potato for fluffy mashed potatoes.
  • Warm the milk before adding it to keep the potatoes creamy.
  • Avoid overmixing, which can make mashed potatoes gluey.

Serve hot alongside roasted chicken, meatloaf, grilled fish, or vegetables. 🍽️
