6 Vitamins to UNBLOCK your ARTERIES!

The idea that vitamins can “unblock arteries” is misleading. Vitamins and supplements cannot remove plaque buildup (atherosclerosis) from arteries. Artery blockage usually involves cholesterol, inflammation, and calcium deposits, and it is managed through lifestyle changes, medications when needed, and medical procedures in some cases.

However, getting enough of certain vitamins and nutrients can support heart and blood vessel health:

1. Vitamin D

  • Helps support overall cardiovascular health.
  • Low vitamin D levels have been associated with higher cardiovascular risk, though taking supplements does not necessarily prevent or reverse artery disease.

2. Vitamin C

  • Acts as an antioxidant and supports healthy blood vessels.
  • Found in foods like oranges, berries, peppers, and broccoli.

3. Vitamin E

  • Has antioxidant properties.
  • High-dose supplements are not recommended for everyone and may have risks, so food sources are generally preferred.

4. B Vitamins (especially B6, B12, and folate)

  • Help regulate homocysteine levels, a substance associated with cardiovascular risk when elevated.
  • Sources include leafy greens, beans, eggs, fish, and fortified foods.

5. Vitamin K

  • Plays a role in normal blood clotting and bone health.
  • Some research explores its relationship with arterial calcification, but it is not a proven “artery cleaner.”

6. Omega-3 fatty acids (not a vitamin, but often discussed with heart nutrients)

  • Found in fatty fish such as salmon and sardines.
  • May help support healthy triglyceride levels and heart health.

What actually helps protect arteries:

✅ Eating a Mediterranean-style diet (vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, fish, nuts)
✅ Regular physical activity
✅ Not smoking
✅ Managing blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar
✅ Taking prescribed medications when recommended

If you have symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, or a history of heart disease, it is important to seek medical advice rather than relying on supplements.
