NEVER LEAVE A CHARGER IN AN OUTLET WITHOUT YOUR PHONE: I’LL REVEAL THE 3 MAIN REASONS

This looks like a clickbait-style headline. The claim that you should never leave a charger plugged in without your phone is more nuanced.

The three common reasons people give are:

  1. Small energy use (“phantom” or standby power)
A charger left plugged in may still draw a tiny amount of electricity even when no phone is connected. For a single modern charger, this is usually very small.
  2. Heat and component wear
Low-quality, damaged, or very old chargers can sometimes overheat or fail. Leaving any electrical device continuously connected increases the time it is exposed to possible faults.
  3. Safety risks from faulty chargers or wiring
Poor-quality chargers, damaged cables, overloaded outlets, or electrical problems can create risks such as overheating or, in rare cases, fire.

For a good-quality, certified charger in good condition, leaving it plugged in occasionally is generally not considered a major danger. However, unplugging chargers when not in use can reduce clutter, save a small amount of energy, and remove a potential risk—especially if the charger is cheap, damaged, or left in a hot or damp place.
