Ingredients
- 2 (3.4-ounce/96 g) packages instant vanilla pudding mix
- 3 cups cold milk
- 1 (8-ounce/225 g) container whipped topping, thawed
- 1 box graham crackers
- 1 (16-ounce/450 g) container chocolate frosting
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk the pudding mix with the cold milk for about 2 minutes, until it begins to thicken.
- Fold the whipped topping into the pudding until smooth and fully combined.
- Arrange a single layer of graham crackers in the bottom of a 9 × 13-inch (23 × 33 cm) baking dish.
- Spread half of the pudding mixture evenly over the crackers.
- Add another layer of graham crackers.
- Spread the remaining pudding mixture over the second layer.
- Finish with a final layer of graham crackers.
- Warm the chocolate frosting in the microwave for 10–20 seconds, just until spreadable. Spread it evenly over the top layer of crackers.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight. The graham crackers soften into a cake-like texture.
Optional Variations
- Chocolate lovers: Use chocolate pudding instead of vanilla.
- Mocha flavor: Stir 1 teaspoon of instant espresso powder into the pudding.
- Peanut butter: Swirl a few tablespoons of peanut butter into the pudding mixture.
- Fresh fruit: Add sliced bananas or strawberries between the layers.
- Homemade topping: Instead of canned frosting, top with a simple chocolate ganache made from equal parts warm heavy cream and chopped chocolate.
Tips for Success
- Use instant pudding, not cook-and-serve pudding.
- Chill overnight for the best texture and flavor.
- For cleaner slices, refrigerate well and use a sharp knife wiped clean between cuts.
- Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Freezing is possible, but the texture of the pudding and whipped topping may change slightly after thawing.
This dessert is a favorite for potlucks, family gatherings, and holidays because it’s quick to assemble and can be made a day in advance.
