The viral claim “Mix Vaseline and coffee…” is usually followed by promises such as removing wrinkles, whitening skin, erasing dark circles, or making you look younger. These claims are not supported by good scientific evidence.
Here’s what the ingredients actually do:
- Vaseline (petroleum jelly):
- Helps lock in moisture and protect the skin barrier.
- Can make skin look smoother by reducing dryness.
- Does not remove wrinkles, lighten dark spots, or increase collagen.
- Coffee grounds:
- Act as a physical exfoliant, removing some dead skin cells.
- Caffeine may temporarily reduce puffiness if used in specially formulated skincare products.
- Coffee grounds themselves have not been shown to erase wrinkles or permanently brighten skin.
If you want to try it
You can make a gentle body scrub (not for the face if you have sensitive or acne-prone skin):
- 1 teaspoon petroleum jelly
- 1 teaspoon finely ground coffee
- Massage gently for 30–60 seconds, then rinse off.
Avoid:
- Scrubbing vigorously, especially on the face.
- Applying the mixture around the eyes.
- Using it on broken or irritated skin.
If your goal is to reduce wrinkles, dark spots, or dark circles, products containing retinoids, vitamin C, niacinamide, sunscreen, and regular moisturizer have much stronger evidence than DIY coffee-and-Vaseline remedies.
