What the Color of Your Urine May Say About Your Health
Urine color can give clues about hydration and certain health changes, but it is not a complete health test. Foods, vitamins, medications, and medical conditions can all affect urine color.
🟡 Pale yellow to clear
- Usually a sign of good hydration.
- Completely clear urine all the time may mean you are drinking more water than your body needs.
🟨 Dark yellow or amber
- Often suggests dehydration.
- Drinking more fluids may help if you have no medical restrictions on fluid intake.
🟤 Brown or tea-colored
- Can occur with severe dehydration, certain foods, medications, or liver/muscle-related conditions.
- If it persists, it should be checked.
🩷 Pink or red
- May be caused by foods like beets, but it can also indicate blood in the urine, which should be evaluated.
🟠Orange
- Can be related to dehydration, certain medications, or bile/liver issues.
🟢 Blue or green
- Rare, but can be caused by some medications, dyes, or certain infections.
⚪ Cloudy or milky
- May occur with dehydration, urinary infections, crystals, or other conditions.
🫧 Foamy urine
- Occasional foam can be normal, but persistent excessive foam may be a sign of protein in the urine and should be discussed with a healthcare professional
