Orchids: one tablespoon is enough and they will bloom continuously – A powerful fertilizer

That’s another viral gardening claim. There is no single “one tablespoon” fertilizer trick that makes orchids bloom continuously.

Your orchid (Orchid) can bloom repeatedly, but only when its overall care is right—not from a magic dose of anything.

Why the “one tablespoon” claim is misleading

Orchids are sensitive to fertilizer strength. Overfeeding can actually:

  • burn roots
  • stop blooming
  • damage the plant long-term

There is no universal spoon measurement that works for all orchids, pots, or fertilizers.

What actually makes orchids rebloom

1. Proper light (most important)

  • Bright, indirect light
  • Too little light = leaves only, no flowers

2. Correct watering

  • Water only when roots are silvery/medium dry
  • Never leave roots constantly wet

3. Light feeding (not heavy)

  • Weak orchid fertilizer solution (often “quarter strength”)
  • Usually every 2–4 weeks during growth phase

4. Rest period

  • Many orchids need a cooler/drier phase to trigger new blooms
  • Without this cycle, flowering may stop

5. Good air circulation

  • Prevents root rot and fungal issues

What “continuous blooming” really means

Orchids don’t bloom nonstop year-round. Instead:

  • They bloom in cycles
  • Proper care helps them rebloom more reliably and frequently
