These things appear in my toilet after it rains. Any idea what they are?

I can help, but I’ll need a bit more detail (or a photo) to be sure.

When you say “these things,” do you mean small worms, insects, or something else? And are they:

  • crawling in the bowl water,
  • floating,
  • or coming out of the drain?

After rain, a few common possibilities in toilets are:

1. Drain fly larvae (very common)
Tiny translucent/gray “worms” that come from organic buildup in pipes. Heavy rain can push them up.

2. Earthworms
Sometimes rain floods soil-connected drains or cracks, and earthworms end up appearing in toilets.

3. Sewer worms / tubifex-type worms
Thin red or brown wriggling worms that live in dirty, oxygen-poor water in plumbing systems.

4. Cockroach nymphs or other insects
Less common, but heavy rain can force insects up through drainage systems.

If you can, upload a clear photo or describe:

  • size (mm/cm)
  • color
  • whether they move actively or just drift
  • where exactly they come from

That will let me narrow it down quickly.
