Every washing machine can dry laundry and most people don’t know about this function

That statement is a bit misleading.

Most washing machines do not actually dry clothes in the way a dryer does. What they usually do is one of these:

  • Spin cycle (all washing machines):
    This removes a lot of water by spinning clothes at high speed, but the clothes are still damp afterward.
  • Washer–dryer combo machines (some models):
    These can dry clothes using heat or condensation, but they’re a specific type of appliance—not all washing machines.

So what many people think of as “drying” is really just water extraction, not full drying.
