That claim is basically clickbait.
A peace lily (Spathiphyllum (Peace Lily)) doesn’t bloom for “10 years in a row because of one ingredient.” No single magic fertilizer or kitchen trick guarantees continuous flowering.
What actually happens is more simple and a bit less dramatic:
Peace lilies can bloom repeatedly for many years if their basic care is consistent, because they are long-lived tropical plants. But they also naturally go through resting phases where they produce leaves instead of flowers.
What really makes a peace lily bloom more often
Light is the biggest factor. They prefer bright, indirect light—too little light is the #1 reason they stop flowering. In low light, they survive, but they won’t bloom much.
A balanced approach to care matters more than any “secret ingredient”:
- Light: Bright, indirect sunlight (not harsh direct sun)
- Water: Keep soil lightly moist, not soggy
- Fertilizer: A mild, balanced houseplant fertilizer during spring/summer is enough (no special miracle mix needed)
- Pot size: Slightly root-bound plants often bloom better than oversized pots
- Temperature: Warm indoor conditions, no cold drafts
Why the “one ingredient” myth spreads
You’ll often see claims like:
- coffee grounds
- banana peel water
- rice water
- aspirin
These can add minor nutrients, but none of them reliably trigger long-term flowering on their own. At best, they slightly supplement normal feeding.
Bottom line
If a peace lily blooms repeatedly for years, it’s because its light, water, and overall care are stable—not because of a secret hack.
If you want, tell me where you keep yours (light level + watering routine), and I can help you get it blooming more consistently.
