Baked Potato

Classic Baked Potato

Cook time: 45–60 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 large russet potato
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Scrub the potato clean and dry it thoroughly.
  3. Pierce the potato 5–6 times with a fork.
  4. Rub with olive oil and sprinkle with salt.
  5. Place directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 45–60 minutes, until the skin is crisp and a fork slides easily into the center.
  7. Cut open, fluff the inside with a fork, and add your favorite toppings.

  • Sour cream
  • Shredded cheddar cheese
  • Chives or green onions
  • Bacon bits
  • Steamed broccoli
  • Chili

Microwave Shortcut

  1. Pierce the potato with a fork.
  2. Microwave on high for 5 minutes.
  3. Turn it over and microwave 3–5 more minutes, until tender.
  4. For crispy skin, finish in a 425°F (220°C) oven for 10 minutes.
