Visible veins in the hands are usually normal and most often related to things like:
- Low body fat
- Genetics
- Aging (skin becomes thinner)
- Exercise or heat (veins expand)
- Fair or thin skin
They are not automatically a sign of a disease.
However, if the veins suddenly become much more prominent or are accompanied by symptoms like pain, swelling, redness, skin changes, or shortness of breath, it could indicate a circulation or vein problem and should be checked by a doctor.
There’s a common myth online that visible hand veins are a sign of a serious condition like heart disease or calcium deficiency, but by themselves they usually are not.
