The claim that “colonoscopy will no longer be an invasive examination” is a bit misleading. There are newer and less invasive ways to screen the colon, but a standard colonoscopy is still an established procedure that involves inserting a flexible camera into the colon.
Newer or alternative approaches include:
- CT colonography (“virtual colonoscopy”), which uses CT scans to create images of the colon and does not require a camera to be inserted into the bowel.
- Stool-based screening tests that look for blood or DNA changes associated with colorectal cancer. These are less invasive but may still require a follow-up colonoscopy if results are abnormal.
A traditional colonoscopy remains valuable because doctors can directly view the colon and remove polyps during the same procedure, which some non-invasive tests cannot do.
If you have the full “new method” article or the second half of the post, share it and I can help check what technology it is referring to.
