Peace lily: thanks to this one ingredient, it will bloom for up to 10 years in a row.

That claim is clickbait gardening exaggeration.

Peace lily (Spathiphyllum) doesn’t bloom continuously for 10 years because of “one special ingredient.” Its flowering depends on overall care conditions, not a magic fertilizer.

What actually makes Peace Lily bloom regularly

1) Proper light (most important factor)

  • Bright, indirect light = more flowers
  • Low light = mostly leaves, few or no blooms

2) Correct watering

  • Keep soil slightly moist, not soggy
  • Overwatering is one of the most common reasons it stops blooming

3) Nutrient balance

  • Light feeding helps flowering
  • A balanced fertilizer (not overused) supports growth and blooms

4) Pot size and root health

  • Slightly root-bound plants often bloom better
  • Too large a pot = more leaves, fewer flowers

5) Temperature and humidity

  • Prefers warm, stable indoor conditions
  • Cold drafts reduce flowering

About the “one ingredient” myth

People often refer to things like:

  • banana peel water
  • rice water
  • coffee grounds

These may add small nutrients, but:

  • they are not a guaranteed blooming trigger
  • overuse can actually harm the plant (fungus, imbalance)

Reality check

Peace lily can live many years, but:

  • it does not bloom continuously for a decade
  • flowering comes in cycles when conditions are right
