That headline is almost certainly exaggerated.
A peace lily (Peace lily) cannot be made to “bloom for up to 10 years in a row” simply by adding one ingredient. Its flowering depends on several factors, including light, watering, nutrition, temperature, and the plant’s overall health.
Some ingredients commonly promoted online include:
- Banana peel – provides small amounts of potassium as it decomposes, but it is not a miracle fertilizer and can attract pests indoors.
- Coffee grounds – should be used sparingly, if at all, because they can encourage mold and alter the soil in ways that aren’t always beneficial.
- Rice water – has little evidence supporting improved flowering.
- Eggshells – release calcium very slowly and are unlikely to increase blooming.
For the best chance of regular blooms:
- Place the plant in bright, indirect light.
- Water when the top inch (2–3 cm) of soil feels dry.
- Use a balanced houseplant fertilizer at half strength every 6–8 weeks during spring and summer.
- Keep temperatures around 18–27°C (65–80°F).
- Repot every few years if the plant becomes root-bound.
A healthy peace lily can bloom repeatedly over many years with proper care, but there is no single ingredient that guarantees continuous flowering for a decade.
If you have a specific article or ingredient in mind, share it and I can explain whether there’s any scientific basis for its claims.
