10 Subtle Signs Your Body Might Send Before a Stroke

A stroke often happens suddenly, but some people may experience warning signs before a major event. These symptoms can be easy to overlook, especially if they come and go.

Possible warning signs include:

  1. Temporary weakness or numbness — especially on one side of the face, arm, or body.
  2. Sudden trouble speaking — slurred speech, difficulty finding words, or trouble understanding others.
  3. Brief vision changes — blurred vision, double vision, or temporary loss of vision.
  4. Unexplained dizziness or loss of balance — especially if it appears suddenly.
  5. New coordination problems — such as stumbling or difficulty using a hand.
  6. Sudden confusion — feeling unusually disoriented or unable to think clearly.
  7. Severe or unusual headaches — particularly if they are different from your normal headaches.
  8. Facial drooping — an uneven smile or weakness on one side of the face.
  9. Short episodes of stroke-like symptoms that disappear — these may be signs of a transient ischemic attack (TIA), sometimes called a “mini-stroke.”
  10. Sudden changes in alertness or behavior — especially when combined with other neurological symptoms.

Remember FAST:
🚨 F — Face drooping
🚨 A — Arm weakness
🚨 S — Speech difficulty
🚨 T — Time to seek emergency help

If these symptoms appear suddenly—even if they go away—seek urgent medical care. A TIA can be a warning sign that a larger stroke may follow.
