7 Signs of Arthritis You Shouldn’t Ignore

Arthritis isn’t just “joint pain with age.” It’s a group of conditions that affect joints, and early signs can be easy to miss.

Here are 7 signs of arthritis you shouldn’t ignore:

1) Joint pain that doesn’t go away

Persistent pain (not just after exercise or injury) is one of the earliest signs of arthritis.

2) Morning stiffness lasting more than 30–60 minutes

If your joints feel stiff for a long time after waking up, especially in hands or knees, it can suggest inflammatory arthritis rather than simple wear and tear.

3) Swelling in joints

Visible swelling, puffiness, or a feeling of “fullness” in joints (like fingers, wrists, or knees) often points to inflammation inside the joint.

4) Reduced range of motion

If you can’t bend or move a joint as freely as before—like trouble making a fist or fully straightening a knee—it may indicate joint damage or inflammation.

5) Warmth or redness around joints

Inflamed joints may feel warm to the touch or look slightly red, especially in conditions like rheumatoid arthritis.

6) Fatigue or low energy

Some types of arthritis are not just joint problems—they can affect the whole body, causing tiredness and a general “unwell” feeling.

7) Symptoms affecting multiple joints

Pain or stiffness in several joints on both sides of the body (for example, both hands or both knees) is more concerning than isolated pain in one joint.
