That claim is basically clickbait.
A Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum) doesn’t have a “one ingredient” that makes it bloom for 10 years straight. What it does have is a simple set of care conditions—and if those are right, it can bloom repeatedly for many years.
Here’s what actually makes a peace lily bloom well and often:
Peace lilies bloom when they are:
- Getting bright, indirect light (not direct sun, not deep shade)
- Kept in slightly moist soil (not soggy, not bone dry)
- Grown in a slightly root-bound pot (they often bloom better when not over-potted)
- Fed occasionally with a balanced houseplant fertilizer during spring and summer
What people sometimes call a “secret ingredient” is usually just diluted fertilizer or even rice water/banana water tricks, but none of these guarantee continuous blooming for years.
Also, important reality check:
- Peace lilies naturally bloom in cycles, not nonstop
- Each bloom (the white spathe) lasts weeks, not years
- After flowering, the plant needs recovery time before producing new blooms
If your goal is long-term flowering, consistency matters far more than any single hack. If you want, tell me how yours is currently doing and I can help you troubleshoot why it may or may not be blooming.
