Here’s a comforting Potatoes with Meatballs and Cheese dish—rich, hearty, and baked until golden and bubbling.

🥔 Potatoes with Meatballs & Cheese (Oven-Baked Casserole)

🧂 Ingredients

For meatballs:

  • 500 g minced beef or chicken
  • 1 small onion (grated or finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 egg
  • 3–4 tbsp breadcrumbs
  • Salt & black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika or chili flakes (optional)
  • 1 tsp dried oregano or mixed herbs

For potatoes:

  • 4–5 medium potatoes (sliced into thin rounds or cubes)
  • 2 tbsp oil or butter
  • Salt & pepper

For sauce (optional but recommended):

  • 1 cup tomato sauce or passata
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp chili flakes or black pepper
  • 1/2 cup water

Topping:

  • 1.5–2 cups shredded cheese (mozzarella + cheddar mix works best)
  • Fresh parsley or coriander (optional)

🔥 Instructions

1. Prepare the meatballs

Mix minced meat, onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, and spices.
Shape into small meatballs (bite-sized works best). Set aside.

2. Prepare potatoes

Lightly toss potato slices with oil, salt, and pepper.
You can parboil them for 5–7 minutes for a softer texture (optional).

3. Make the sauce (optional but recommended)

In a pan, heat tomato sauce + paste + spices + water.
Simmer for 5–8 minutes until slightly thickened.

4. Assemble the dish

In a baking dish:

  • Layer potatoes at the bottom
  • Add meatballs on top
  • Pour tomato sauce evenly over everything
  • Cover tightly with foil

5. Bake

  • Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 35–40 minutes
  • Remove foil, sprinkle cheese generously on top
  • Bake again for 10–15 minutes until cheese is melted and golden

🧀 Serving

Let it rest for 5–10 minutes before serving so it sets nicely.
Best served warm with salad, garlic bread, or yogurt dip.

💡 Tips

  • For extra richness, add a little cream between layers
  • Mix mozzarella for stretch + cheddar for flavor
  • You can also add bell peppers or mushrooms for extra texture

If you want, I can also make a stovetop version, air fryer version, or a spicy Pakistani-style version.
