The claim “clean 15 kilograms of waste from your colon in one night” is a common detox-style claim, but it is not supported by medical evidence. The human colon does not normally store many kilograms of “waste” that can be safely flushed out overnight, and so-called colon cleanses or detoxes are not proven to improve health or remove toxins.
Your body already has natural systems for waste removal:
- The colon absorbs water and forms stool.
- The liver and kidneys help process and remove waste products.
- Regular bowel movements are a normal part of this process.
Extreme “cleanses” can sometimes cause problems, including:
- Dehydration
- Electrolyte imbalances
- Diarrhea and abdominal cramps
- Irritation of the digestive system
- Interactions with certain medications
For better colon health, evidence-based habits include:
- Eating enough fiber (vegetables, fruits, beans, whole grains)
- Drinking adequate water
- Staying physically active
- Limiting excessive processed foods
- Seeking medical advice for ongoing constipation, blood in stool, unexplained weight loss, or persistent abdominal pain
