Honey Garlic Chicken

A sweet, savory, sticky chicken dish that works well with rice, noodles, or vegetables.
Ingredients
- 1½ lb (700 g) chicken thighs or chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 tbsp oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- ⅓ cup honey
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp ketchup (optional, for extra richness)
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar or lemon juice
- 1 tsp sesame oil (optional)
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp paprika
- 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (optional, for thickening)
- Green onions and sesame seeds, for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the chicken
- Pat chicken dry and season with black pepper and paprika.
- If using chicken breast, you can lightly coat pieces with a little cornstarch for a crispier texture.
- Cook the chicken
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add chicken and cook for 5–7 minutes, turning until golden and cooked through.
- Remove chicken and set aside.
- Make the honey garlic sauce
- Lower heat and add garlic to the same pan. Cook for about 30 seconds.
- Add honey, soy sauce, ketchup, vinegar, and sesame oil.
- Simmer for 2–3 minutes.
- Combine
- Return chicken to the pan.
- Toss in the sauce and simmer for 3–5 minutes until glossy and coated.
- Add cornstarch slurry if you want a thicker sauce.
- Serve
- Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.
- Serve over steamed rice with vegetables.
Optional variations:
- Add chili flakes or sriracha for spicy honey garlic chicken.
- Add ginger for a more Asian-inspired flavor.
- Bake instead: coat chicken with sauce and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 25–30 minutes until cooked through.
