Butter dip biscuits are a type of soft, buttery biscuit baked in melted butter instead of being rolled and cut like traditional biscuits. They’re sometimes called “butter swim biscuits” because the dough essentially bakes while sitting in butter.
Here’s a simple version:
Ingredients
- 2½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1¾ cups buttermilk
- ½ cup (1 stick) melted butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Pour melted butter into an 8×8 baking dish.
- Mix flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
- Stir in buttermilk until a sticky dough forms.
- Spread dough directly over the butter in the pan.
- Score the dough into 9 squares before baking.
- Bake 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
They come out with:
- crispy buttery edges
- fluffy center
- rich flavor without needing extra butter on top
Good with:
- honey
- jam
- sausage gravy
- fried chicken
- soups and stews
