That headline is almost certainly exaggerated.
“THIS burns weeds in 1 day! They NEVER grow again” is a common clickbait claim used to promote homemade weed killers or gardening products.
A few things to know:
- Many substances (vinegar, salt solutions, boiling water, etc.) can burn the leaves of weeds quickly, making them appear dead within a day.
- However, many weeds regrow from their roots, rhizomes, bulbs, or seeds.
- Very few treatments guarantee that weeds will “never grow again.”
- Salt-based mixtures can damage the soil and make it difficult for desirable plants to grow later.
For lasting weed control, gardeners typically use a combination of:
- Pulling or digging out the roots
- Mulching to block sunlight
- Repeated treatment of persistent weeds
- Appropriate herbicides when suitable and used according to the label
A more accurate headline would be: “This may kill the visible parts of some weeds quickly, but most methods do not permanently prevent all future weed growth.”
