Homemade floor cleaner: with this mixture your floor will look like new.

A popular homemade floor cleaner uses simple ingredients that can help remove everyday dirt and leave many types of floors looking fresher. The right mixture depends on your flooring material—some cleaners that work well on tile can damage wood, stone, or laminate.

General-purpose homemade floor cleaner (for tile, vinyl, and sealed floors)

Ingredients:

  • 4 liters (about 1 gallon) warm water
  • ½ cup white vinegar
  • A few drops of mild dish soap
  • Optional: a few drops of essential oil for fragrance

How to use:

  1. Sweep or vacuum the floor first.
  2. Mix the ingredients in a bucket.
  3. Mop with a well-wrung mop (avoid soaking the floor).
  4. Allow it to air dry or wipe with a clean microfiber cloth for extra shine.

Important cautions

  • Do not use vinegar on marble, granite, or other natural stone floors—the acidity can dull or damage the surface.
  • For wood floors, avoid excess water and strong vinegar solutions; use a cleaner recommended for your floor’s finish.
  • Always test a small hidden area first.

For a “like new” appearance, the biggest difference usually comes from removing buildup: vacuuming well, using the correct cleaner for the surface, and drying the floor after mopping.
