Laundry as white and pure as milk: you only need this ingredient

Many laundry “miracle ingredient” claims suggest a single household item can make clothes “white as milk,” but results depend on the fabric, the type of stain, and whether the fabric has become yellowed or gray over time.

A commonly used laundry booster is baking soda:

  • Add about ½ cup of baking soda to the washing machine along with your regular detergent.
  • It can help neutralize odors, soften water, and improve detergent performance.
  • It may help whites look fresher, but it does not bleach fabric or remove all deep stains.

For truly bright whites:

  • Wash whites separately from colors.
  • Use the hottest water safe for the fabric.
  • Treat stains before washing.
  • Consider an oxygen-based bleach (color-safe bleach) for many white fabrics.

Avoid mixing bleach with vinegar, ammonia, or other cleaners, as this can create dangerous fumes.
