The claim “Clean 15 kilograms of waste from your colon in one night” is a common detox/colon cleanse headline, but it is not supported by medical evidence.
Your colon does contain waste that is gradually moved out through normal bowel movements, but the idea that most people carry 15 kilograms of toxic waste stuck in the intestines is a myth. There is no proven drink, supplement, or overnight cleanse that removes hidden “toxins” from the colon.
What actually supports colon health:
- Eat enough fiber: Fruits, vegetables, beans, lentils, whole grains, nuts, and seeds help keep bowel movements regular.
- Drink enough fluids: Helps fiber work properly and prevents hard stools.
- Stay physically active: Movement supports normal bowel function.
- Maintain healthy gut bacteria: Foods with natural probiotics (such as yogurt with live cultures, if tolerated) and a varied diet can support gut health.
Be cautious with “colon cleansing” methods
Aggressive cleanses, laxative products, or enemas used without medical guidance can cause:
- Dehydration
- Electrolyte problems
- Diarrhea and abdominal cramping
- Disruption of normal bowel function
- Complications in people with certain health conditions
If constipation is the concern
Occasional constipation is common, but ongoing problems may need a proper evaluation. Seek medical advice if you have:
- Blood in stool
- Unexplained weight loss
- Severe abdominal pain
- A sudden change in bowel habits
- Constipation lasting weeks
A healthy colon does not need to be “flushed out”—it needs regular movement, adequate fiber, fluids, and appropriate medical care when problems occur.
