No need to scrub, just put the oven rack in a bag and it will be as good as new.

That’s not really a safe or reliable method.

Putting an oven rack in a bag “and leaving it” won’t clean it on its own. At best, people sometimes soak racks in a sealed bag with something like ammonia or a cleaning solution to loosen grease—but even then, it still usually needs scrubbing or rinsing afterward. And sealing chemicals in a bag can be risky if it traps fumes or leaks.

Oven racks are typically made of chrome-plated or stainless steel, and baked-on grease is stubborn. The usual effective options are:

  • soaking in hot water + dish soap (in a tub or tray large enough)
  • using baking soda paste for stuck-on grime
  • or a dedicated oven cleaner (used carefully and ventilated)

If you were thinking of a specific “bag method” you saw somewhere, tell me—there are a couple of viral hacks floating around, and some are easy to misinterpret or unsafe if done wrong.
