Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Wash and scrub the potatoes well, then dry them completely.
- Pierce each potato 5–6 times with a fork.
- Rub the potatoes with olive oil and sprinkle evenly with salt (and pepper, if using).
- Place the potatoes directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until the skins are crisp and a fork easily pierces the center.
- Let the potatoes rest for 5 minutes.
- Slice each potato lengthwise, fluff the inside with a fork, and add your favorite toppings.
Tips for Perfect Baked Potatoes
- Russet potatoes produce the fluffiest interior.
- Don’t wrap potatoes in foil if you want crispy skins.
- Larger potatoes may need up to 75 minutes to become fully tender.
- For extra fluffy potatoes, gently squeeze the ends (using an oven mitt) before opening.
Enjoy as a side dish with grilled meats, chili, or a fresh salad, or load them up with toppings for a satisfying meal.
