Claims like “put 2 drops in your ear and you will hear like before” are common in online advertisements, but they are not a proven way to recover hearing.
Hearing loss can happen for different reasons:
- Earwax buildup (sometimes easily treated)
- Ear infection or inflammation
- Eardrum problems
- Age-related hearing loss
- Inner ear or nerve damage
A random ear drop cannot restore hearing caused by nerve damage, and putting unknown substances into the ear can sometimes cause harm—especially if there is a perforated eardrum, pain, or discharge.
If someone has reduced hearing, the safest first step is an ear examination and hearing test to find the cause. Sudden hearing loss (especially in one ear) should be checked urgently because some causes are time-sensitive.
