The claim “THIS burns weeds in 1 day! They NEVER grow again” is a popular gardening headline, but it is usually not true. Many methods can make weeds look dead quickly, but permanent prevention is much harder because many weeds regrow from underground roots or seeds.
Methods that can work (with limits)
🔥 Boiling water
- Can kill small weeds quickly, especially in cracks in sidewalks or driveways.
- Usually does not kill deep roots, so some weeds return.
🧴 Vinegar-based sprays
- Can burn leaves within hours to a day.
- Works best on young annual weeds.
- Deep-rooted weeds often grow back.
🧂 Salt mixtures (be careful)
- Salt can kill plants, but it can also damage soil and prevent desired plants from growing.
- Not recommended for garden beds.
🌱 Better long-term weed control
✅ Pull weeds while the soil is moist and remove as much root as possible.
✅ Apply mulch to block sunlight and reduce new growth.
✅ Keep garden areas covered with healthy plants or ground cover.
✅ Remove weeds before they produce seeds.
