That claim is basically clickbait, not reality.
A mix like “this burns weeds in 1 day and they never grow again” (often vinegar/salt/soap or similar DIY blends) does not permanently kill weeds in most cases.
What actually happens
- It may burn the leaves fast (so it looks like it worked in a day)
- But it usually does NOT kill the roots
- So the weed often grows back within days or weeks
Weeds are designed to survive—many regrow from deep roots or underground stems.
Why “never grow again” is false
To permanently remove weeds, you must destroy:
- the root system
- or stop seed regrowth in soil
Most DIY sprays only damage the visible part of the plant.
What actually works better
1. Boiling water
- Destroys plant cells instantly
- Best for cracks, driveways, tiles
2. Manual removal (best long-term)
- Pulling out the full root
- Most effective if done properly
3. Mulching
- Blocks sunlight so seeds can’t sprout
4. Systemic herbicides (carefully used)
- Designed to reach roots (unlike DIY mixes)
- Must be used responsibly to avoid soil damage
Important warning
Some viral DIY methods (salt, bleach, strong acids) can:
- ruin soil for months
- harm nearby plants
- contaminate groundwater
So they don’t “solve” weeds—they often just damage the environment instead.
If you want, tell me where your weeds are growing (garden, cracks, lawn, etc.), and I’ll give you the fastest safe method for that exact situation.
