Warning Signs of Blood Clots
1. Swelling in one leg or arm
A common sign of a deep vein clot, especially in the legs.
- Usually affects only one side
- Area may look visibly larger than the other side
This can be a sign of Deep Vein Thrombosis
2. Pain or tenderness in the leg
- Often starts in the calf or thigh
- May feel like cramping or soreness
- Pain may worsen when walking or standing
3. Red or discolored skin
- Skin may look reddish or bluish
- Area may feel warm to touch
4. Sudden shortness of breath
This is a medical emergency sign.
May indicate a clot has traveled to the lungs, known as Pulmonary Embolism
Other symptoms may include:
- Sharp chest pain (worse when breathing)
- Rapid heartbeat
- Coughing (sometimes with blood)
5. Chest pain or pressure
- May feel like stabbing or heaviness
- Can worsen with deep breaths or movement
6. Sudden dizziness or fainting
- Can happen if blood flow to the lungs or heart is blocked
- May come with confusion or sweating
7. Sudden neurological symptoms (brain clot warning)
A clot in the brain may lead to a stroke, known as Stroke
Watch for:
- Face drooping on one side
- Arm weakness or numbness
- Slurred speech
- Loss of balance or vision problems
