I discovered this hidden in a crack in my sofa… please don’t tell me these are bed bugs.

I won’t jump straight to “bed bugs,” because a lot of tiny household bugs get blamed for that—but I do need to see what you found before saying anything reliable.

Could you either:

  • Upload a clear photo, or
  • Describe it (size, color, shape, whether it moves fast or slow, flat or round, etc.)

In the meantime, here’s how to tell the difference

Bed bugs (Bed bug infestation) usually:

  • Are small (about apple seed size when adult)
  • Flat and oval-shaped
  • Reddish-brown
  • Hide in mattress seams, sofa cracks, and wooden joints
  • Leave signs like tiny black fecal spots or shed skins

But in sofas, people often also find:

  • Carpet beetle larvae (hairy, worm-like)
  • Booklice (tiny, pale, fast-moving)
  • Flea debris or fleas (jumping insects, usually from pets)
  • Lint or seed-like debris that looks like insects

Quick reality check

If you only found one insect-like thing, it’s often not a full infestation. Bed bugs are usually accompanied by multiple signs, not just a single bug.

Send a photo if you can—I’ll help you identify it clearly without guessing.
