That headline is dangerous misinformation.
There is no “3-minute trick” that can stop a stroke at home, especially for seniors. A stroke is a medical emergency caused by either:
- A blocked artery in the brain (ischemic stroke), or
- A burst blood vessel (hemorrhagic stroke)
In both cases, you cannot safely treat or stop it yourself at home.
What actually matters in a suspected stroke
The only proven action is immediate emergency care.
Recognize stroke signs (FAST):
- F – Face: One side droops
- A – Arm: One arm weak or numb
- S – Speech: Slurred or confused speech
- T – Time: Call emergency services immediately
Other symptoms:
- Sudden vision loss
- Severe dizziness or loss of balance
- Sudden severe headache
- Confusion or difficulty understanding speech
What you should do (this is the real “life-saving step”)
- Call emergency services immediately (don’t wait)
- Note the exact time symptoms started
- Keep the person lying safely on their side if unconscious but breathing
- Do NOT give food, drink, or medication unless instructed by professionals
What NOT to do
- Do not try “tricks” or home remedies
- Do not wait to see if it improves
