This 5-Second Trick Could Help You Pick the Juiciest Oranges Every Time see more…

There isn’t a scientifically proven “5-second trick” that always identifies the juiciest orange, but there are a few reliable signs you can check in a few seconds:

  • Pick it up: A ripe, juicy orange usually feels heavy for its size. More weight often means more juice.
  • Look at the skin: Choose oranges with smooth, firm skin. A few blemishes are usually fine, but avoid fruit that’s soft, shrivelled, or mouldy.
  • Check firmness: It should feel firm with just a slight give when gently squeezed. Very soft spots can indicate bruising or spoilage.
  • Don’t rely on colour alone: Depending on the variety and growing conditions, a fully ripe orange may not be uniformly bright orange. Some ripe oranges can even have a slight green tinge.
  • Ignore the “navel” myth: The size of the navel (the small circular mark on one end of navel oranges) doesn’t reliably predict how juicy the fruit will be.

The best single indicator is weight—if you’re choosing between oranges of similar size, the heavier one is often the juicier choice.

No method is perfect because juiciness also depends on the variety, harvest time, and storage conditions, but these tips give you the best odds of picking a good orange.
