That title is also a classic example of an exaggerated or misleading claim.
“THIS burns weeds in 1 day! They NEVER grow again”
Here’s how it compares to reality:
- Some weed killers can visibly damage weeds within 24 hours, especially non-selective contact herbicides or strong homemade solutions. However, visible wilting does not always mean the entire plant, including the roots, has been killed.
- “They NEVER grow again” is not realistic. Weed seeds already in the soil can germinate later, and many perennial weeds regrow from roots or underground stems unless those are completely eliminated.
- If the video is promoting a homemade mixture (such as vinegar, salt, and dish soap), keep in mind:
- Vinegar usually burns the leaves but often doesn’t kill deep roots.
- Salt can make soil unsuitable for growing desirable plants and can persist in the environment.
- Dish soap helps the solution stick to leaves but isn’t a herbicide on its own.
In practice, preventing weeds from returning usually requires a combination of:
- Removing or killing the root system (for perennial weeds).
- Applying mulch or a weed barrier.
- Preventing weeds from producing seeds.
- Repeating treatment if new weeds emerge.
So while a product or mixture may burn weeds in a day, the promise that they “never grow again” is generally an advertising exaggeration rather than a guarantee.
