What Is The Normal Blood Pressure For Each Age

There isn’t a perfectly different “normal blood pressure for each age” anymore in modern medicine. Instead, doctors mostly use one general healthy range for adults, with some small variations for children and older adults.

Blood pressure is written as:

  • Systolic (top number) = pressure when the heart beats
  • Diastolic (bottom number) = pressure when the heart rests

🫀 Normal blood pressure (adults)

For most adults (18+), a healthy range is:

  • Normal: around <120 / <80 mmHg
  • Elevated: 120–129 / <80
  • High blood pressure (Hypertension): ≥130 / ≥80 (stage 1 and above depending on level)

This is based on modern guidelines used by cardiology experts.

👶 Children & teens (approximate ranges)

Blood pressure in kids depends on age, height, and sex, so ranges are wider:

  • Newborns: ~60–90 / 20–60
  • Toddlers (1–3 yrs): ~90–105 / 55–70
  • School age (6–12 yrs): ~95–110 / 60–75
  • Teenagers: often close to adult range (~110–125 / 65–80)

👵 Older adults (60+)

  • Still generally aim for <130 / 80 if tolerated
  • Some doctors may accept slightly higher values depending on:
    • dizziness risk
    • kidney function
    • overall health

But very high readings are never considered normal with age.

⚠️ When blood pressure is dangerous

  • Hypertensive crisis: ≥180 / ≥120 → emergency
  • Low blood pressure: <90 / <60 (may cause dizziness or fainting in some people)

🧠 Key takeaway

  • There is no “normal high BP because of age”
  • Healthy goal for most people: around 120/80 or lower
  • Treatment goals may be personalized by a doctor
