If by the “dark circle around the faucet” you mean the black or dark ring that forms where the faucet meets the sink, it’s often caused by mold, mildew, soap scum, mineral deposits, or trapped dirt.
For mild stains
- Mix equal parts white vinegar and water.
- Soak a cloth or paper towel in the mixture and wrap it around the stained area for 15–30 minutes.
- Scrub gently with an old toothbrush.
- Rinse and dry.
For mold or mildew
- Apply a bathroom cleaner or a diluted bleach solution (follow the product’s safety instructions).
- Let it sit for a few minutes.
- Scrub with a brush and rinse thoroughly.
- Ensure good ventilation while cleaning.
For stubborn buildup
- Make a paste of baking soda and water.
- Apply it to the dark ring.
- Let it sit for 10–15 minutes.
- Scrub gently and rinse.
If the stain keeps returning
The dark ring may be under old caulk or sealant around the faucet base. In that case:
- Remove the old caulk.
- Clean and disinfect the area thoroughly.
- Apply new bathroom-grade silicone caulk.
