Never step on this weed; it’s considered a ‘gold mine’ in the garden …𝗦𝗲𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲

The claim that a weed is a β€œgold mine” in the garden is a common gardening saying, but it depends on which weed is being discussed. Many plants that people remove as weeds can actually have useful roles:

  • Dandelion β€” helps support pollinators, has edible leaves (when properly identified and grown away from chemicals), and can indicate certain soil conditions.
  • Clover β€” can help fix nitrogen in soil and support bees.
  • Plantain (Plantago species) β€” is a hardy groundcover that can grow in compacted soils and has traditional uses.
  • Chickweed β€” is sometimes used as an edible wild green when correctly identified.

However, not every weed is beneficial. Some can be invasive, compete with crops, harbor pests, or spread aggressively.

If you share a photo of the weed or its name from the post, I can help identify it and explain whether it’s actually useful, edible, or something to remove.
