You can often clean a gas stovetop with simple household ingredients, but the results depend on how much grease and burnt-on residue has built up. A popular two-ingredient method is:
Two-ingredient gas stovetop cleaner
You’ll need:
- Baking soda
- White vinegar
Steps:
- Turn off the stove and let all parts cool completely.
- Remove the grates and burner caps.
- Wipe away loose crumbs and grease with a damp cloth.
- Sprinkle a layer of baking soda over greasy areas.
- Spray or drizzle a small amount of white vinegar over the baking soda.
- Let it sit for 10–15 minutes while the fizzing helps loosen grime.
- Scrub gently with a non-abrasive sponge or brush.
- Wipe clean with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly.
For burner parts:
- Soak removable grates and caps in warm, soapy water first.
- Use a soft brush to remove residue.
- Make sure all parts are completely dry before putting them back.
Avoid:
- Using steel wool on stainless steel surfaces (it can scratch).
- Mixing vinegar with chlorine bleach (it can create dangerous fumes).
- Blocking burner openings with cleaning residue.
For stubborn, baked-on grease, a commercial degreaser or a longer soak may work better than natural ingredients alone.
